The Chevys won three of their first four games in the P.E.I. Bantam AA Baseball League. Summerside defeated the Stratford A’s 8-5, Western Mariners 10-0 and Cardigan Team Two Clippers 15-5, and lost 12-5 to the Summerside Team One Chevys.
Summerside Team Two’s next game is in Tignish on Saturday against the Mariners at 1 p.m.
Both Summerside teams will co-host four off-Island teams in a tournament at Queen Elizabeth Park (QEP) from June 30 to July 2.

At Stratford’s Kinlock Field, the Chevys jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third inning.
Strong pitching from starter and winner Cameron Murray kept Stratford off the board until the home half of the fourth inning. Stratford would close the gap, but strong relief work by Justin Caron secured the Chevys’ season-opening win.
Caron, Zack Costain and Liam Greenan all collected two hits in three trips to the plate while Ayden Wood was 1-for-2, with a double.
Michael Gallant (2-4, two doubles) led the way offensively for Stratford.
Ben MacEachern took the pitching loss.

Greenan (3-3), Jackson MacDougall (2-2), Wood (2-3), Costain (2-3) and Gunning (1-2) collected Summerside’s hits.

At QEP’s Very Important Volunteer Field, Caron and Team One’s Adam Arsenault matched each other pitch for pitch to keep the game scoreless through three innings. An unfortunate bounce, combined with disciplined plate appearances by Team One batters, would force Caron from the game as Team One score five runs across home plate in the fourth inning, before later stretching the advantage to 7-0.
Team Two battled back to cut the deficit to 7-5 in the fifth inning, but Team One would answer by putting the game out of reach.
Arsenault earned the pitching win, and also helped his own cause by batting 2-for-3. Parker Gallant (2-4), Kalib Snow and MacKenzie Matheson collected the other Team One hits.
MacDougall and Costain both went 2-for-3 to lead Team Two while Wood and Ben Gallant also had hits.

Chevys 15 Clippers 5
At Cardigan’s Clipper Field, Caron (3-3, double), winning pitcher Gallant (2-2), Gunning (2-3, triple), Costain (2-4), Greenan (2-4) and Hannah LeClair (1-2, two walks) were Summerside’s top batters.
Ben Collings (2-2, double) and Sam MacDonald (1-2) were tops offensively for Cardigan.
