P.E.I. completes play at national junior baseball ch’ship winless

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – Team P.E.I. dropped its final two games of the 2014 Baseball Canada national junior men’s championship on Saturday.

The Island representative, which completed the 21-under tournament 0-4 (won-lost), was blanked 4-0 by host Dartmouth and 10-0 by Quebec.

P.E.I. dropped 6-0 and 4-3 decisions to Ontario and Saskatchewan on Thursday. All of Friday’s games were rained out.

At Beazley Field, Nova Scotia pitcher Jesse Borden limited the Island to just four hits in a complete-game effort.

Clark Gallant of Summerside took the loss. Gallant gave up three runs and four hits in six innings of work.

Cornwall’s Dylan McQuaid (2-2), Dylan McKenna of Cornwall and Josh Kelly of Charlottetown recorded P.E.I.’s hits.

 

Quebec 10 P.E.I. 0

At the Mainland Commons diamond, Quebec took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and then blew the game open with a six-run third while outhitting P.E.I. 13-4. Quebec scored a deuce in the fifth inning and a single in the sixth to win by the 10-run mercy rule.

Winning pitcher Jean-Christophe Dupuis went the distance, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out one.

Jordan Stevenson of New Glasgow was the pitcher of record for P.E.I. He granted seven runs, six hits and one walk while striking out one batter over three innings. Colin Arsenault of Summerside worked the other two innings.

McKenna, McQuaid, Connor Myers of Peakes and Denver MacKenzie of Stratford picked up hits for P.E.I.
