Myers leads junior Islanders to sweep over Saint John

Miscouche native pounds out six hits, drives in six in two P.E.I. victories

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – The P.E.I. Junior Islanders are back at .500 after sweeping a doubleheader from the Saint John Alpines Sunday in Summerside.

The Islanders won 8-0 and 11-1 in six innings to improve to 7-7 in New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action.

Chandler Laporte twirled five shutout innings and Nolan Hicken finished with two scoreless frames in the opener for the home squad. Miscouche’s Josh Myers had two hits and drove in four runs to pace the offence. Chasse Gallant, Elijah Hood and Kyle Pinksen each added a pair of hits while Jed Noonan and Patrick Gallant both contributed a hit to the attack.

Matt Oram took the loss for the Alpines, who were held to four hits by Islander pitching.

In the second game, P.E.I. exploded for seven runs in first two innings against Alpines ace Ryan Nason.

Myers again led Isles attack with four hits and two RBI. Patrick Gallant had three hits while Pinksen, Chasse Gallant, Riley Gallant, Ryne MacIsaac, Noonan and Hood all had hits for P.E.I.

Brett Hicken went the distance for the Islanders, scattering five hits and striking out eight.

Ian Keating had two hits for the Alpines.

P.E.I. is back in action this weekend with two games on Saturday versus the Fredericton Royals at Memorial Field in Charlottetown beginning at noon and a doubleheader Sunday in Chatham, N.B., with the Ironmen.
