Murray, Gunning key Chevys’ win

SUMMERSIDE – Cameron Murray took care of the pitching, and Nic Gunning provided the game-winning hit for the Summerside Team Two Chevys.

Murray gutted out a complete-game victory, and Gunning knocked a walk-off double that scored both the tying and winning runs in the seventh inning to give the Chevys an exciting 10-9 victory over the Stratford Athletics in the P.E.I. Bantam AA Baseball League recently.
At Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field, the Chevys scored five runs in the first inning, but the A's battled back and eventually went ahead to hold a three-run lead after five innings. Murray held Stratford scoreless over the final two innings, setting the table for a Summerside comeback.
The Chevys answered with two runs in the home half of the sixth inning, and Gunning then walked it off in the seventh as he drove home Zack Costain and Justin Caron.
Liam Greenan (3-4), Gunning (1-1, three walks, double), Justin Caron (1-1, two walks), Cameron Gallant (1-1, two walks) and Jackson MacDougall (1-2, walk) were Summerside’s top batters.
For Stratford, losing pitcher Mike Gallant, Lucas Proud, Carsen Harding, Ben MacEachern, Brennan MacLeod and Nathan Reid all collected two hits.
Summerside Team Two is tied with Summerside Team One atop of the league standings. The Chevys’ next action is against the Western Mariners at the Legion Field in Tignish on Friday.
