The Islanders will again be competing in the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League and hope to build on their second-place regular season finish and heartbreaking semifinal loss to the Fredericton Royals in 2016.

The Islanders will also be competing at the national junior championships for the first time in several years. The tournament will be held in Gatineau, Que., from Aug. 17 to 20.

The Islanders have finalized their coaching and management staff for the season. Dave MacIsaac of Charlottetown will be back as head coach and will again be aided by Chris MacGregor of Charlottetown. Scott MacDonald of Summerside will join the team this year as pitching coach. Vernon Doyle of Charlottetown will take on duties as general manager.

The team will have a few key player losses due to graduation, including Brady Arsenault, Colin Arsenault and Grant Grady, but should have the majority of players back, buoyed by some impressive newcomers and rookies.

The team is hoping to start indoor workouts in March in preparation for the season. The staff will also be busy looking for sponsorship and additional volunteers that can help out in any way.
