Colby Lyle pitched a two-hit shutout for the Holland Hurricanes against the University of New Brunswick in recent Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association (CCBA) action. The Hurricanes play in the Atlantic Conference.

The ‘Canes ultimately fell 2-1 to the OCAA-champion St. Clair College Saints in the semifinals. St. Clair lost 2-1 in the final against Fanshawe College.

Semifinal

After a fifth-inning solo home run in Sunday’s semifinal by outfielder Josh McDonald gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 edge, the Saints rebounded with a single run in the sixth.

Both teams threatened, but neither could get the go-ahead run until the bottom of the seventh, when the Saints secured the walk-off win with a bases-loaded single.

Holland College finished 2-3 (won-lost) overall, with victories over John Abbott College (17-0) and Humber (2-0). Colby Lyle pitched the shutout versus Humber, and pushed the Hurricanes into the semifinal round.

Holland College’s other losses included a 4-1 setback to host Durham College, and a 2-1 loss in the round robin to Fanshawe.
