After giving up six runs in the first inning, Hogg settled down to earn the win as the Summerside Team Two Chevys outlasted the Cardigan Clippers 10-7 on Tuesday night. The win allowed the Chevys to keep pace with the P.E.I. Bantam AA Baseball League-leading Summerside Team One Chevys.
Nic Gunning came on in relief, and struck out seven in three innings of work. Will Lyons was the pitcher of record for the Clippers.
Gunning (4-4, double) and Cameron Gallant (3-3) paced the Chevys offensively. Hogg, Ayden Wood, Hannah LeClair, Liam Greenan, Ben Gallant and Zack Costain had Summerside’s other hits.
Cardigan starter Landon Patton had a 2-for-3 summary to lead the visitors at the plate.
Summerside’s next league game is in Charlottetown against the host Royals on Monday at 8 p.m.
Tournament
The Chevys recently posted a 1-2 (won-lost) record at the Rod Wilson Senior Memorial tournament in Fredericton, N.B.
Evan MacDougall, the younger brother of the Chevys’ Jackson MacDougall, was summoned from his peewee squad to join Summerside for the Wilson tournament. Evan impressed at the plate, and made several solid defensive plays while filling in at a number of defensive positions.
Hogg earns win in pitching debut
SUMMERSIDE – Jayden Hogg made his pitching debut a winning one.
