Ellsworth, Nova Scotia in double-life game Saturday

SASKATOON, SASK. – Alberton’s Jeff Ellsworth had three hits Friday as Nova Scotia won both games it played at the Canadian senior men’s fast pitch championship in Saskatoon, Sask.

The East Hants Shooters Bar and Grill Mastodons defeated Saskatchewan’s Chettys Pretty Boys 5-3 and Alberta’s Grande Prairie Pirates 11-4 to improve to 5-1.

They play in a double-life playoff game Saturday at 4 p.m. Atlantic. Their opponent had not been finalized at press time but it could be the host Saskatoon Angels.

Ellsworth singled and struck out against Chettys after coming off the bench late in the game. Saskatchewan was leading 3-0 through four innings before Nova Scotia tied it with three in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead with a pair in the sixth.

Donnelly Archibald got the win in relief of Travis Nevin.

Nova Scotia scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take a 6-1 lead against Alberta. After the Pirates closed to 6-4, Nova Scotia scored deuces in the fifth and sixth innings and added another in the seventh.

Ellsworth was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and two runs. Justin Schofield went the distance for the win.
