Eagles eliminated at Canadian senior men's fast pitch championship

ST. CROIX, N.S. – The Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles run at the Canadian senior men’s fast pitch championship is over.

The Island representatives lost 2-0 to the Saskatoon Angels in Saturday’s playoff round in St. Croix, N.S. The Angels then defeated the East Hants Shooters Bar and Grill Mastodons, the defending champs and host squad, 3-2.

Against the Eagles, Saskatoon scored single runs in the second and fourth innings and hard-throwing Devon McCullough threw a one-hitter and struck out 19 for the victory.

Justin Laskowski was 1-for-1 with the lone RBI of the game as McCullough and Bryan Abrey added the other hits and scored the two runs.

Jason Smallman’s fifth-inning single was the lone hit for the Eagles. Brett Young, Mitch Hardy, Matthew Dawson and Morgan Murphy each drew a walk.

Brady Woods allowed two runs, one of them unearned, on three hits while striking out 10 and walking one.

There are four teams remaining in contention heading into championship Sunday.

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Galway Hitmen are in the 4 p.m. final and are awaiting their opponents.

The Elmira Expos from Ontario play the Angels at 9:30 a.m. with the winner playing the Sooke Loggers from British Columbia in the 11:30 a.m. semifinal.
