ST. CROIX, N.S. – The Grande Prairie Pirates handed the Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles their second loss Wednesday on the opening day of the Canadian senior men’s fast pitch championship in St. Croix, N.S.
The Pirates defeated the Eagles 4-1.

The Alberta representative scored two runs in the top of the third. P.E.I. cut the lead in half with one in the bottom of the inning before Alberta restored the two-run lead in the fifth. The Pirates added a seventh-inning insurance run.
Third baseman Bryn Redhead was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored to lead the Pirates offence. Cory Jones and Rich Haldane each had a hit and drove in a run. Brayden Arcand and Scott Galenza had their other hits.
Avery Arsenault, Brett Young, Peter Reimer, Logan Gallant, Matthew Dawson and Jordan Costello each singled for the Eagles.
Haldane earned the win, allowing a run on six hits while striking out four.
Eagles starter Jacob Ebbett was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one. Brady Woods allowed two runs, one of them earned, on two hits in three innings of relief. He walked four and struck out four.
The Eagles will play both Ontario teams today, meeting the Wiarton Nationals at 8:30 a.m. and the Elmira Expos at 7 p.m.
