The Chevys posted an impressive 5-1 (won-lost) record en route to winning the prestigious 13th annual Fiddler MacDonald Memorial mosquito AAA baseball tournament in Charlottetown last weekend. The event featured 12 teams from across the Maritimes playing in the 11-and-under age group.
After playing three round-robin games on Friday and Saturday, the Chevys registered three solid victories in Sunday’s playoff round.
The Chevys blanked the Mid-Isle Cougars 5-0 in the quarter-finals, trimmed the Hammonds Plains A’s 12-2 in a four-inning semifinal game, and defeated the Port City Pirates 8-1 in the championship match.
The Chevys, who went 2-1 in the round robin, entered the playoffs as the No. 4 seed.
Following is a recap of Summerside’s playoff games:

Denver Arsenault’s complete game on just 53 pitches stifled Mid-Isle’s offence. Arsenault also chipped in with a two-run single to help his own cause.

Chevys 12 A’s 2
The bats were firing on all cylinders as Summerside punched its ticket to the championship game with a mercy-rule victory.
Bulger, Arsenault, George Gallant and Brandon Smith all had two hits in the win.

Chevys 8 Pirates 1
Smith pitched a complete game to earn the victory in the championship game. He allowed just one run on six hits while striking out four batters and throwing a total of 67 pitches.
Gallant, the Chevys’ leadoff hitter, sparked the offence by going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Smith, Griffin Ryan and Cole Echlin each chipped in with two-hit efforts.
