The Royals have advanced to the semifinals of the Baseball Canada national 15-under (bantam) championship. Charlottetown, which earned the right to represent P.E.I. by winning the provincial elimination tournament in Summerside, will take on Quebec at 12:30 p.m., AST.

The winner of this game will advance to the gold-medal game while the loser will play for bronze.

P.E.I. has never won a gold medal at a national baseball championship. P.E.I.’s only medal – a silver – was won at the 1977 Canadian senior championships.

Recaps

After losing 16-0 to Manitoba in their opener, the Royals won four straight games – 4-2 versus Alberta, 8-5 against Nova Scotia, 12-0 over Newfoundland and Labrador and 10-8 against Saskatchewan – to finish round-robin play 4-1 (won-lost).

The Royals, led by Eric Anderson’s 2-for-3 batting performance and a solid pitching performance from Connor McGregor, then pulled out a 7-6 win over British Columbia in a cross-over game Saturday to advance to the semifinals. MacGregor worked six innings to earn the win, and Connor Jones came on to record the final three outs for the save.
