Bantam AA Chevys move into first

TIGNISH – The Summerside Team Two Chevys took over into sole possession of first place in the P.E.I. Bantam AA Baseball League on Friday.

Summerside Chevys

The Chevys trailed the host Western Mariners 3-2 through four innings, before rallying for six runs in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 9-7 win at Legion Field.
Cameron Murray, who drove in two runs in the fifth inning and delivered an insurance marker in the seventh, went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Chevys. Liam Greenan, Nic Gunning, Cameron Gallant, Jackson MacDougall and Jayden Hogg had the other Summerside hits.
Braydon Milligan (1-3, three walks), who was the pitcher of record, and Teddy Neufeld (1-2, two walks) were Western’s top hitters.
Greenan, MacDougall and Gunning combined to record 17 strikeouts on the hill for Summerside. MacDougall earned the pitching victory while Gunning fanned eight in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
The Chevys will not play their next league game until July 18, but will take part in the first annual Rod Wilson Senior Memorial bantam AA tournament in Fredericton from July 14 to 16.
