Bantam A Chevys open playoffs on winning note

FREETOWN – A quick start paced the Summerside Chevys in their opening game of the P.E.I. Bantam A Baseball League playoffs.

Summerside Chevys

The Chevys scored five runs in the top of the first inning, and went on to defeat the Bedeque Blue Jackets 11-1 in five innings at Kowalski Field on Tuesday evening.  
Starting pitcher Jordan Arsenault earned the complete-game victory, scattering five hits, allowing only one run, no walks and striking out 10. Bedeque starter Zack Jones took the loss. Mark MacCormack, Rave Fergeson and Thomas Rayner pitched in relief for the Blue Jackets.  
Carter Ripley (1-1,walk, run scored, two runs batted in), Cameron Paynter (1-1, two walks, run scored), Dylan Gilfoy (1-2,walk, run scored, RBI), Matt MacInnis (1-2, RBI) and Connor Costain (three walks, three runs scored) led Summerside offensively.
For Bedeque, Jaxon Wood (1-2, RBI), Zack Jones (1-2, double), Thomas Rayner (1-2, run scored), Colton Lowther (1-2) and Ella Nicholson (1-2) led the way at the plate.
The Chevys resumed playoff action at Queen Elizabeth Park’s Legends Field on Thursday night against Charlottetown Team Two. Summerside also hosts the Blue Jackets in a return match on Friday at 6 p.m.
