CHARLOTTETOWN – The UPEI women’s basketball team is in the hunt for a head coach after Greg Gould announced his resignation this week.

Gould, who has coached basketball for over 40 years and recently completed his second season with the Panthers, decided to step down for professional reasons.

“When Greg took the reins of our women’s basketball program, his goal was to make the team an AUS contender – and he’s done that – as the team successfully stepped it up this season and saw themselves in the AUS semifinals,” said UPEI director of athletics and Summerside native Bill Schurman. “UPEI Athletics and Recreation, and especially his team, will miss his experience and dedication to the program.

“We thank him for his efforts in building the team during his time with us, and wish him the very best.”

UPEI will begin its search for a replacement immediately. Gould’s last official day as head coach is June 20.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with each of my players over the past two seasons,” said Gould. “They are great examples of true student-athletes, excelling on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”
