SUMMERSIDE – The Fit Stop at Credit Union Place recently crowned its squash club champions.

A total of 30 participants competed in the following divisions – men’s A/B and C/D; women’s C/D; junior male, and junior female.

“It was exciting for us to have juniors participating,” said Fit Stop manager Melanie Ramsay-Mugridge. “It was a wonderful opportunity for them to watch and learn from the men and women in our club who competed in the 2014 Harrow Atlantic Open and others who just play for recreation.

Dana Betts won the men’s A/B title, defeating Marcel Landry in three straight games. Anson Carmody won the consolation.

Evan Harding fought back in the third set, but lost to Doug Dexter in the men’s C/D final. Shawn Jackson took the consolation.

In women’s C play, Lorraine McDonald won the final over Val Hickox. Lindsay Dawson claimed the consolation.

Mary Lee edged Jayne MacDougall in a hard-fought back-and-forth battle to win the women’s D crown. Laurie Ann McCardle was the consolation winner.

The junior male competition featured four players. Matthew McDonald upset Connell Dyment in the final. Brothers Samuel and Zackary Pendleton shared the consolation award.

Three players competed in the junior female competition. Lexie Murphy defeated Leslie Clark in the final, with the consolation going to Darcy Duncan.

“It was a great tournament for the our club, to close the squash season,” said Ramsay-Mugridge. “The courts remain open all year long and we will hold events, like this one, throughout the coming year.”
