Prince County skaters fare well at ADL junior STARSkate championships

KENSINGTON – The 2014 Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) junior STARSkate championships attracted approximately 110 skaters here at Community Gardens recently.

This was the 30th annual provincial figure skating event held at the Gardens, and each one has been sponsored by ADL.

Prince County skaters fared very well in the divisions in which results were provided for.

Kate DesRoches and Keanah Arsenault of the Evangeline Figure Skating Club won the Pre-Preliminary Dance. Makayla Gallant and Kaylen Murnaghan of the Sherwood-Parkdale Skating Club finished second, and the third-place team was comprised of Jasmyn Coughlin and Shelby Dyment of the Tyne Valley Figure Skating Club.

Meanwhile, Colby Arsenault and Isabelle Gallant, also from the Evangeline club, were the top duo in Preliminary Dance. Emma Gillis and Marilyn Sheen of Kensington came second while Mackenzie Hayes and Jerika Richard of Evangeline received third-place honours.

In the team competition, Summerside Team Two took the Preliminary Division. Summerside Team One was second and The Crazy Flying Jumping Space Invaders Squad from Alberton was third.

Charlottetown Team Two was tops in Pre-Preliminary, followed by Kensington Team Two and the Pink Shining Stars from Summerside.

STAR 4 Girls

In the STAR 4 girls’ 13-and-over free program, Claire Chilton of the Charlottetown Figure Skating Club placed first. Shannan Hill of the host Kensington and Area Figure Skating Club was second, and Karina Terentiev of Charlottetown rounded out the top three.

Kaylee Dougay of the Summerside Figure Skating Club won the STAR 4 girls’ under-13 free program. Amanda MacBain of the Charlottetown Figure Skating Club and Kaylynne A.T. Vessey of the Sherwood-Parkdale Skating Club were second and third, respectively.

No results are posted for the Star 1, 2 and 3 groups.

Most participants

The Summerside Figure Skating Club took home the award for the most participants. The Tignish Figure Skating Club had the second-most competitors, and third place went to the Charlottetown Figure Skating Club.
