SLEMON PARK – Jeff Leard, president of Slemon Park Plex Inc., the not-for-profit board operating the Slemon Park Arena, has announced its major fundraiser.
“The Ultimate Hockey Fan Dinner, Draw and Auction” will return for a second year.
“Last year’s event was enjoyed by all who attended, and we are looking forward to this year’s event,” said Leard.
The dinner will take place at the Lancaster Room, next to Anson’s Restaurant at Slemon Park, on Friday, Feb. 22.
All proceeds from this event will be going to the renovations and operation at the Slemon Park Plex. The Plex has been operating for a year and a half, and is being used by Summerside minor hockey, recreational hockey, oldtimers hockey and numerous other groups.
“We are so excited that Jay Onrait of TSN’s Sportsdesk has agreed to join us and help us with this event,” said Leard. “There is no doubt he will be very entertaining, and make it a fun night for all in attendance.”
Onrait co-hosts the 1 a.m. ET weekday edition of SportsCentre alongside Dan O'Toole, entertaining viewers with his own brand of humour while delivering a complete summary of the day's sporting events to viewers.
During the London 2012 Olympic Games, Onrait and O'Toole hosted SportsCentre live from Trafalgar Square. In 2010, Onrait served as co-host of Olympic Morning on CTV alongside Beverly Thomson for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Onrait joined NHL Network in 2001, serving as host of the network's flagship show NHL On The Fly as well as Molson That's Hockey 2. A year later, Onrait re-joined TSN in his current role on SportsCentre.
Onrait's work assignments over the years have included coverage of the NHL Trade Deadline, NBA Finals, Vanier Cup and in-studio host of Toronto Raptors broadcasts on TSN.
In 2011, Onrait was rewarded for his outstanding contributions to the world of sports with a Gemini Award for Best Sportscaster/Anchor. He was nominated in the same category the previous year.
“This will especially be a great event if you are a hockey fan,” said Leard.
