SLEMON PARK – With the P.E.I. Junior Badminton tournament going down last weekend, a pair of Summerside natives made quite a showing.

Brohan Brennan and Owen Hall met in the championship match of the under 16 division, with Brennan sweeping the match in two straight games.

Both players had a tough road through the tournament, which was a single elimination knockout format.

In Brennan’s semifinal match, he topped opponent Connor Loerick 21-19 in the first game, before falling 16-21 in the second. Brennan would flip the score around in the third, finishing off Loerick with a 21-16 score to advance to the finals.

Hall was in tough against Alex MacFayden, the 2012 under-14 champ. He handed him a loss in two narrow games, by scores of 21-19 and 25-23.

In the finals, Brennan, the elder of the two competitors, showed his experience. He handed Hall a loss by scores of 21-15 and 21-8.

Hall also took part in the under-14 category and faired better against his age group.

The tournament was run as a single round robin, with plenty of new faces to the Island badminton scene. Despite the unfamiliarity, Hall and other top-seeded player David Pan came across no difficulty until they met each other.

Pan, a Charlottetown native, took the first game of the match by a score of 21-16, before Hall took the next two games 21-18 and 21-16, en route to a gold medal.
