Estelle Dalton, this year’s recipient, has been a volunteer for over 15 years with the association.
“I was shocked when I found out I was nominated,” said Dalton. “I was even more surprised to hear I had won.”
Dalton has served as chairperson and co-chairperson of the Friends of the Eptek Centre over the past 10 years.
“It was our good luck that Eptek Centre crossed her radar and we have enjoyed her incredible support ever since then,” said site director Paula Kenny. “Estelle is a warm and welcoming person who has shouldered the responsibilities to lead the Friends of Eptek in a diversity of directions over the years.”
The Award of Merit was formed to honour individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of community museums on the Island.
Dalton organized the Royal Wedding Tea, co-chaired the 75th birthday bash for Elvis Presley, and created of the Christmas Décor evenings, among others.
“There’s a lot of big shoes to fill when it comes to previous award winners,” said Dalton.
The Eptek Centre slows down in the summer but picks up steam in the fall.
“We have a lot planned for next year and I’ll be back to help with them.”
