Spinnakers' Landing is set to open on June 15.

SUMMERSIDE – Spinnakers’ Landing is looking up its culture game.

The attraction announced earlier this month that it had reached an agreement with the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts to host an artist-oriented space for the upcoming tourist season.

What exactly that space will end up becoming still seems to be up in the air, but the council is asking for expressions of interest from local artists and art collectives who have an idea of what to do with it.

A post on the group’s website, www.peica.ca, states that the space, which is 552 square feet, will be provided to one or two artists, or artist groups, for times ranging from two weeks to up to three months.

“This is a high-traffic, waterfront location, ideal for making, exhibiting, and selling art work,” states the site.

Anyone wanting to submit a proposal is required to be an Island resident.

Proposals must include a portfolio and resume, intended use for the space, ideal tenancy duration, types of work for sale (provide quantity and prices), ability to keep posted hours, ability to share space with other artists, and plans for public engagement.

Selected artists will be provided use of the space free of charge.

The space will be available from June 15 to Sept 14.

The deadline to make the initial round of selections is May 23 at 4 p.m.

Submissions can be sent via email to programs@peica.ca,

Dropbox or Google Drive (programs@peica.ca for Dropbox or with peiartscouncil@gmail.com for Google Drive,) or can be mailed to PEICA, Summer Studio c/o PEI Council of the Arts, 115 Richmond Street, Charlottetown, PE, C1A1H7.
