SUMMERSIDE – Anyone interested in acting and want to hone their acting skills is invited to join the Harbourfront Players for an in-depth acting workshop.

Harbourfront Theatre will host the Country Jubilee during Music PEI Week.

“Our group is friendly and fun, and we’re always interested in meeting new folks while learning to become better actors,” said one of the workshop organizers, Susan Rodgers.

Fresh off a recent exhilarating run of one-act plays, the Harbourfront Players are holding an acting workshop for budding and experienced Island thespians. Instructor Marlane O’Brien, whose portfolio shines with many years of film and stage roles as well as a growing number of stage directing credits, has a dynamic session lined up for eager learners.

“We will be working with the script to discover what the author says about us, what other characters say about us, what we say about ourselves and how to make use of that: How to use objectives, obstacles and actions to further our characters needs and through line, and how to find and use key words to create dramatic tension and interest.”

O’Brien suggests, “Bring paper and pencils.”

The workshop will run from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside on Sunday, April 13. Participants are asked to register ahead of time by emailing Rodgers at fatcat@pei.sympatico.ca. Fee for the afternoon is $25.

Participants may bring snacks to share if they wish, and should come prepared to delve into a monologue they’ve memorized.
