CHARLOTTETOWN – A benefit concert featuring Mitch Schurman, Al Tuck, Chris Corrigan, and musical friends will be hosted at the Carrefour Centre in Charlottetown on Friday, April 11. The benefit concert is to support Monica Thibaudier-Ness, daughter of Paul Ness and Christine Thibaudier.

In 2011, shortly after university graduation, Monica was diagnosed with a Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that attaches itself to bones and muscles. After 12 months of chemotherapy and seven weeks of radiation, she went through remission until January 2013 when she had to resume radiation and chemotherapy.

With only partial success, Monica's treatments had to be interrupted at the end of January 2014. While waiting for new treatment options, she is now under the care of the palliative unit of the Montreal General Hospital where the Centre for Sarcomas is located.

Doors to the benefit event open at 7 p.m., along with cash bar and viewing of a silent auction selection of local art, services and gift certificates. The cabaret-style concert will start at 8 p.m. Suggested donation of $15 can be made at the door.

It is so great to see people reaching out to help others in their time of distress! This is exactly what former Olympian, Clara Hughes, is doing with "Clara's Big Ride" a 110 day, 12,000 km charity bike ride across Canada. Clara's Big Ride" is making stops in cities along the way and hosting events to bring awareness to mental health. Today is day 28 days of her 110 day journey and will be arriving in Moncton later this afternoon. This is her last stop in New Brunswick before pedaling on to Prince Edward Island.
