The City of Summerside is encouraging all residents to sign a “Best Wishes” book for Heather Moyse before she leaves to compete for gold at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

“Heather is a wonderful ambassador for the City of Summerside,” said Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart. “She is a tremendous competitor and role model for our youth. We wish her the best of luck as she represents not only our country, but our province and our city at her third Olympic games.”

The Best Wishes book can be signed at the main reception desk of Credit Union Place Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from now until Sunday Feb. 9.

“We will all be cheering Heather on as she goes for the gold again. We are all very proud her and of all her accomplishments. Summerside is lucky to be the hometown of such as wonderful athlete and person,” said Councillor Jim Steele, Chairperson of the City of Summerside’s Community Services Committee.

The potato growers of Prince Edward Island are cheering on Moyser, who has been P.E.I. Potatoes’ Brand Ambassador since 2011.

Sponsorship from the potato industry has helped Moyse to focus on recovery from hip surgery in late 2012, achieve Silver Medal success with Canada’s Women’s Rugby Sevens team at the Rugby Sevens World Cup in Moscow last summer, and now earn a place on Canada’s Olympic Bobsled Team once again.

Prince Edward Island Potatoes wants to give Islanders and all well-wishers from across Canada an opportunity to wish Heather the best as she heads to Sochi and prepares to defend her Gold Medal.

To do this, P.E.I. Potatoes has created Heather’s Bobsled Booster Fan Club.

Everyone who wants to send best wishes to Heather is invited to visit www.peipotato.com and click on the Bobsled Booster Fan Club button on the home page.  Messages will instantly update to the site and will be available for Moyse to read leading up to her races in Sochi on Feb. 18 and 19.

Visitors to the site are also invited to click on the link for Homegrown Hero Signature Swag.

Moyse has signed a limited number of P.E.I. Potatoes promotional items, including aprons, t-shirts, cookbooks, and water bottles.  Weekly random draws from online entries will be held leading up the races on Feb.18 and 19.

While visitors are on the Prince Edward Island Potatoes website they are encouraged to check out our page on Moyse, including a question and answer section, some of Heather’s training videos, and Heather’s favourite recipe for garlic mashed potatoes which she uses to power her toward bobsled success!  This page can be found at www.peipotato.com/heather.
