In Friday afternoon's game in 21st annual Christmas Classic

SUMMERSIDE – A forgettable second half cost the Three Oaks Axemen in Friday afternoon’s action in the 21st annual Christmas Classic.

The Amherst Vikings outscored the host Axemen 54-16 in the third and fourth quarters en route to an 85-50 victory.

It was Amherst’s first game of the senior AAA boys’ basketball tournament, and the Axemen dropped to 1-1 (won-lost).

The game was before the student body at Three Oaks.

Three Oaks, which led the Vikings 34-31 at halftime, is back in action on Friday night at 6:45 p.m. against Miramichi Valley.  

Other games

The defending-champion Prince Andrew Panthers pulled out an exciting 86-83 win over the Charlottetown Rural Raiders at the Three Oaks gymnasium. Prince Andrew improved to 2-0 while Rural fell to 1-1.

At Summerside Intermediate School, the Colonel Gray Colonels won 73-62 over the Westisle Wolverines while Miramichi Valley won its opener 69-32 versus the Bluefield Bobcats (0-2).

Gray is now 1-1 and Westisle is 0-2.
