Busy weekend for Summerside police
SUMMERSIDE — A city resident was awoken early Saturday morning to a person in his garage.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. on Ottawa street.
The resident of the home woke and saw the unknown man, who was wearing a black hoodie and hat, inside his garage.
The man ran when the homeowner shouted at him.
It appears that nothing of value was taken before the suspect left the residence.
That was one of several incidents that kept city police busy over the weekend.
Saturday night, police arrested a 19-year-old Travellers Rest man for impaired driving after he was stopped on South Drive.
Another 53-year-old city man was also charged with impaired driving after police detained his vehicle on MacEwen Road Sunday morning.
Both men face future court appearances in Summerside provincial court.
Friday and Saturday, police received several complaints of thefts from parked vehicles in the MacEwen Road area before arrested a 19-year-old man in possession around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning in possession of several articles that had been taken from various vehicles in the area.
He is facing theft-related charges and will appear at a later date in Summerside provincial court.
Also over the weekend, city police arrested a 40-year-old Mermaid man while he was hiding in a vacant apartment on Central Street.
Police were looking for the man in connection with several shoplifting charges.
He will appear in court at a later date for break and enter into the apartment and also the shoplifting charges.
Police arrested a 31-year-old Slemon Park after they were called to attend a disturbance call in that area on Saturday evening.
The man faces charges of assault with a weapon after a 30-year-old woman was allegedly struck in the face with a water pitcher. The man and woman are not related.
Early Sunday morning city police arrested a 40-year-old man from Duck Brooke, Newfoundland, outside a local nightclub after it was reported that he allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old Summerside woman inside of the club.
According to the investigation, a verbal confrontation resulted in him allegedly assaulting the female. He will appear in Summerside provincial court on assault charges at a later date.
