CHARLOTTETOWN – Hockey player Janelle MacLeod and basketball player Chase Bowden have been chosen as the Holland College Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Oct. 13.

MacLeod, a rookie blue-liner from Charlottetown, played a great defensive game for the Hurricanes in a 2-0 exhibition win on Saturday. MacLeod also scored the Hurricanes’ second goal in the game, which was played in Borden-Carleton as part of the World Girls Hockey Weekend.
MacLeod is a student in the wildlife conservation technology program.
The women’s hockey team is in action again on Sunday against the Southside Lynx senior women’s team in exhibition play. The game, which will be played at Gateway Arena in Borden-Carleton, will begin at 6 p.m.
Bowden, a native of New Glasgow, N.S., played strong games on the weekend as the Hurricanes hosted the UPEI Panthers, Acadia Axemen and Mount Allison Mounties in exhibition play in Charlottetown.
Bowden picked up 27 points and eight rebounds on Saturday versus Acadia, and added 18 points and 13 rebounds in Sunday’s game versus Mount Allison. The Hurricanes went 1-2 (won-lost) in the three weekend games.
The Hurricanes continue pre-season play by visiting Cape Breton University for an exhibition tournament at the Centre 200 from Oct. 25 to 27.
