LETTER: Still waiting on raise question

 ..
..

After a week of waiting for a response to my recent letter to the editor about Summerside City Council’s raises, I have received numerous calls and citizens talking to me almost every day, expressing much the same as myself.

My request was for a full explanation to the electorate concerning council’s last three raises since elected being elected, I believe its between 22 to 24 per cent. All department heads and employees were asked to cut their operations, then council gave themselves, yet another raise.

I haven't talked to any taxpayer yet that is satisfied with this action. I would remind council, you all took an Oath of Office to manage our city with fiscal restraint, spend our money prudently, purchasing what we can afford at the time, while reducing our debt. I would further remind you comparing the City of Summeride, to the City of Charlottetown is absurd.

Same justification you used for electrical increases, comparing us to Maritime Electric. Your actions have caused a lot of embarrassment to hard working people. In my opinion, council should have set an example of restraint and took no raises, other than the cost of living, like the rest of us. Taxpayers are still waiting for you to justify your actions.
