LETTER: Minister's absence at schools meeting noted

I think it is unconscionable that you would be out of the province for an extended period when so many of our families are frightened that their schools will be closed and communities torn apart.

Hundreds are attending meetings, and the Rural Development Minister shows that he is not considering or having any sensitivity for the feelings of rural Islanders.

Government must know that closing schools does not save money in the long run. What it does is lower the standard of education, break up families and communities, and prohibit new infrastructure, and thus lower the standard of living.

I do not live in a rural community nor do I have children in school, but I am asking that the government, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of Rural Development seriously consider the pros and cons of school closing before you close any schools, being they rural or urban.

Harriet Worden,

Summerside
