I have just read that Summerside Police Services have arrested and charged a local man with break and enter, and theft, from a motel. Excellent work.

I have also read a monthly report from Summerside City Coun. Norma McColeman regarding last month’s police department stats that state there were 93 break-ins and thefts. I know personally three victims of break and enters and thefts.

It is the total responsibility of our chief of police, David Poirier, to ensure the citizens are receiving an accurate picture of just what types of crimes are occurring. What is important to us taxpayers is that we know: Where these break-ins occurred? What areas of our city are being targeted? How many of these incidents have been solved? And how many still under investigation?

By doing this, citizens can look out for each other and assist the police in solving these crimes. Ninety three of these crimes reported for one month seems worthy of a public statement. In today’s society, it should be about police and the community working together.

David Griffin,

Summerside
