On July 9, around 7 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a call from the owner of a potato field on Route 180 in Sherbrooke about damage to a nearby field. Sometime over the weekend, a vehicle had gone through the field and damaged potato plants on the outskirts of the field. Tire tracks were clearly visible, and damage is estimated to be around $3,000. The matter is still under investigation.

No injuries in multi-vehicle collision 

On July 9, around 5:15 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call of a three-vehicle collision on Route 2 in Sherbrooke. There were no injuries, but all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Bike saddles stolen

On July 10, around 7 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint of theft at the Jacques Cartier Provincial Park. A camper's bicycle saddles were stolen from a campsite in the overnight hours. The matter is still under investigation.

Man arrested for impaired driving

On July 12, around 1 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway in Spring Valley. The complainant advised the male driver appeared to be impaired. Police attended and upon the driver showing signs of impairment and noting open alcohol in the vehicle, the 32-year old driver was arrested. He was transported to the East Prince Detachment where he provided breath samples over four times the legal limit, and he was charged under the Criminal Code for Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle. He is due to appear in court in late August.

School property damaged

On July 13, West Prince RCMP received a complaint of damage to the grounds at Ecole Pierre-Chiasson school in Deblois. Police attended and noted damage to the lawn, which appeared to have been torn up by a vehicle. As well, a complaint of damage to the lawn at a nearby local ATV club in Deblois was reported. Witnesses contacted Police to advise that a multi-colored truck was seen on the properties in the early morning hours. Police are investigating the occurrences.

RCMP, Fire departments respond to barn fire

On July 13, at approximately 11 a.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a structure fire on Route 231 in Breadalbane. As police arrived, it was a noted that a barn on the property was fully engulfed. Numerous fire departments, as well as the provincial fire marshal, were also on scene. The investigation is continuing.

Watercraft stolen

On July 13, West Prince RCMP received a complaint of a stolen watercraft from a business parking lot in Tignish. The watercraft is a Polaris Freedom 700, is blue and white in color, and is believed to have been stolen sometime after July 1. The investigation is ongoing.

RCMP investigating property damage

On July 14, East Prince RCMP attended a residence in Miscouche to investigate a report of damage to property, believed to have occurred sometime earlier that day at approximately 2 a.m.. The complainant reported damage to his vehicle, which had been parked in his driveway. The investigation is continuing.

Gas stolen

On July 14, at approximately 1:45 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of theft of gas from vehicles parked on the Chelton Road in Bedeque. The thefts are believed to have occurred between Thursday July 12 and Saturday July 14. Police are currently following up on some leads and the investigation is continuing. 

Recaps and Reminders

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 35 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout July, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
