Environment Canada is warning that while it will warm up significantly today, the temperature will drop dramatically starting tonight, giving a risk of thick ice patches possible on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Freezing rain overnight has made parts of roads and sidewalks very slippery this morning. The ice is patchy, making slips and skids unexpected.
The freezing rain warning from Environment Canada first issued Monday, remains in place for early this morning.
That has caused schools to be on a one-hour delay for this morning. The update just before 8 a.m. says that Westisle family of schools will close for the day but all other schools in the province will resume normal operations after this morning's delay.
East of Summerside roads are not too bad but West Prince has more ice patches.
Queens county roads have a few slippery areas,
Kings county roads are best off with sand and salt trucks out, but roads are mostly clear.
Confederation Bridge, however, is currently open to all traffic with no warnings in place.
FlyPEI shows the first two flights of the early morning cancelled, but all other arrivals and departures are on time today. Check the airport web site for updates.
On P.E.I. today, early morning temperatures ranged from a high of +2.3 at North Cape to a low of 0.9 at Maple Plains.
