SUMMERSIDE - The United Way of P.E.I. has approved funding for 10 Island Food Security Grants made possible by the success of the 2017 P.E.I. Burger Love campaign and the 36 restaurants that supported the Give Back Burger initiative.

The initiative saw participating restaurants donate $1 for each burger sold in April to the United Way of P.E.I. raising funds to support programs that increase access to local and affordable food for Islanders.

“We are very excited to be able to help the people of P.E.I. gain access to affordable, nutritious food by supporting this granting program thanks to Fresh Media and our 36 partner restaurants,” said Andrea MacDonald, CEO for the United Way. “This is a great example of the private sector and the non-profit sector working together to support Islanders who do not have access to enough high quality food.”

Funds will be distributed to the participating organizations for activities to begin in April 2018.

“We created the Give Back Burger initiative to pay it forward to our Island community in a very meaningful way with food security support,” said Melody Dover, President of Fresh Media and P.E.I. Burger Love. “We're proud to see these funds raised stay on P.E.I. and to come to life through this year's recipients”.

The United Way of P.E.I. is committed to the advancement of the Prince Edward Island community by bringing resources together to support local non-profit organizations, help them fund local projects, work with them to build sector strength, while collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders to address the pressing needs of Islanders.
