The Prince Edward Island RCMP Major Crime Unit has arrested a 35-year-old resident of Travellers Rest on sex charges.

RCMP have released few details related to the case other than a brief press release issued Wednesday morning.

In that release police said the male accused was arrested April 17, in Travellers Rest following a three-month investigation by the Major Crime Unit’s internet child exploitation investigator.

The alleged offences took place over a three-month period in January of this year.

Police expect to lay charges of making sexually explicit material available to a child and invitation of a child under 16 years of age to sexual touching.

The man was released from police custody with a promise to appear in Summerside Provincial Court in June.
