Traffic volume questioned

On April 16, East Prince RCMP received a complaint from a resident of Salutation Cove Road stating that there was a lot of traffic on that road, especially in the overnight hours. The complainant believed this was suspicious in nature, due to the road being so secluded.  Members will be conducting patrols.

Gas stolen from equipment

On April 17, at about 7:45 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a theft of fuel from an excavator parked in Westmorland. This is the second fuel theft this month. More than 500 litres of fuel was stolen.

Threats reported

On April 17, at about 9 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a 911 call from a female reporting that her son was threatening her. The call was disconnected. The cellphone was pinged and members were able to locate the vehicle. Members spoke with the 65-year-old complainant and her 38-year-old son and it was determined it was a verbal altercation.

Complaint about transport trucks

On April 17, at about 5 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint from the Esso in Borden that transport trucks were blocking both lanes of traffic and that vehicles were having trouble accessing the Confederation Bridge. The Department of Highway Safety was contacted and the situation was rectified.

Complaint of damage to vehicle

On April 20, at approximately 2 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint from a female stating that the back window of her vehicle had been smashed. It appears her 19-year-old son was driving the vehicle at the time. Another male has been accused of throwing a rock through the back window but the matter is still under investigation.

RCMP respond to hospital

On April 20, around 2:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP got a complaint of a disturbance at the Western Hospital in Alberton. The subject of the complaint, a 32-year-old male from Miminegash, was later arrested and lodged in the Prince County Jail. He was charged with assault and uttering threats and will appear in court at a later date.

Driver warned

On April 20, at about 3 p.m., East Prince RCMP got a complaint of an erratic driver travelling through the traffic circle in Travellers Rest. The complainant indicated that she was cut off by a vehicle, almost causing a collision. Kensington Town Police was notified of the complaint, and were able to stop the suspect vehicle, and issued the driver a warning under the Highway Traffic Act.

Cottage broken into

On April 21, East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter to a seasonal cottage residence in Long River. The break and enter is believed to have taken place sometime between April 6 and April 20, and the residence was not occupied at the time. There is no report of a theft, however there was damage received to the front door and window.  The investigation is continuing.

Fire on Lennox Island

On April 21, at approximately 11:30 p.m., RCMP was called to the scene of a structure fire in Lennox Island.  The inside of a detached garage was burned, and the fire was not deemed suspicious.  There were no injuries.

Brakes on speedster

On April 22, around 7:30 p.m., while on patrol on Route 12 in West Devon, a member of the West Prince RCMP noted a vehicle driving west bound at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle speed was locked in by radar at 197 km/h.  The vehicle failed to stop for police, however the 20-year old male driver was arrested later in the evening.  He was charged under the Criminal Code for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as for operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.

Reminder about phone scams

The public is reminded that phone scams are continuing to occur, with calls saying the person has received an inheritance or won a sweepstakes and asking for an email address.  This usually includes asking for either banking information or saying that funds are needed to process the transaction to receive millions. Do not provide personal information or send money for any type of suspicious requests.

Traffic checks continuing

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 29 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway.  RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints and patrols in April, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cellphone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.

Anyone with information regarding these investigations or other criminal activity is asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
