SpayAid P.E.I. is turning to a GoFundMe campaign to help reach a milestone of 3,000 spay/neuters in the province.
SpayAid P.E.I. is Prince Edward Island’s only low cost spay/neuter program. For the past decade, the all-volunteer registered charity has provided vaccination and spay/neuter assistance to Island pet owners who cannot afford to have their pets fixed.
The group partners with 10 veterinary clinics on P.E.I. to provide this three-way cost-sharing program.
“Over the last 10 years we have assisted with the vaccination and spay/neuter of 2,930 dogs, cats and rabbits on P.E.I.,’’ says Michael Walsh, president of SpayAid P.E.I.
“This has made a significant difference to the numbers of unwanted pets surrendered to the Humane Society or just being abandoned. If each of these pets were responsible for only one litter, this means there are around 15,000 less unwanted animals on the Island.”
To help reach 3,000 mark, SpayAid P.E.I. has launched a GoFundMe page to help in raising funds. A donation of $115 will cover the cost of one spay/neuter surgery as well as providing the necessary vaccinations. All donations over $10 will receive a charitable donation tax receipt.
