Shopping options for P.E.I. on Victoria Day

Victoria Day is a public holiday that celebrates Queen Victoria’s birthday.

Although not a statutory holiday, some Islanders will have a chance to enjoy a long weekend.

Island school children have the day off Monday as well as provincial government workers.

However, most businesses will be open, some with varying hours.

The city’s two major grocery chains, Atlantic Superstore and Sobeys, are operating on normal business hours. 

P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission stores are also open. The Oak Tree Liquor Store in Charlottetown as well as the Granville Liquor Store in Summerside are open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. All other liquor stores will be operating from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For those looking to head out to the hardware stores, some are operating on different business hours.

Canadian Tire, Home Depot and Kent Building Supplies are all operating on normal business hours. However, Home Hardware is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Princess Auto is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city’s biggest department store, Walmart, is open and operating on normal business hours.

The Charlottetown Mall is operating on normal business hours, but the Confederation Court Mall will be closed.

On the gardening front, Jewell’s Country Market is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. while VanKampen’s Greenhouse is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and York Greenhouses is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shoppers Drug Mart on 403 University Ave. and 675 University Ave. are operating on normal business hours. However, the Shoppers Drug Mart on 172 Queen St. is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lawtons Drugs on Grafton Street is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., St. Peters Road is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Water Street is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Murphy’s Pharmacies across P.E.I. also have varying hours with some of the locations closed.

West Royalty will be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Stratford is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (home and health section as well Canada Post are closed); Parkdale is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (home and health section as well as Canada Post are closed); Queen Street is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; East Royalty is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Cornwall is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Kensington is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Central Street in Summerside is open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Murphy’s Pharmacies in Morell, Rustico, Summerside, Tyne Valley and Wellington are closed.

The Confederation Centre Public Library will also be closed.

However, those looking to catch a movie are in luck. Both Cineplex and City Cinema are open.
