The Green Party of P.E.I. has nominated its first two candidates in Kings County.
Party members nominated Boyd Leard and Susan Hartley in the districts of Souris-Elmira and Georgetown-Pownal. The two candidates were acclaimed, with 47 members voting in the nomination meeting, held Tuesday night at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown.
The next provincial election will occur on or before Oct. 7, 2019.

Liberals: 2
PCs: 7
Green: 6
NDP: 0
Leard is the owner and operator of Lea-Mac, a marine and electronics business in Souris. He has been an active community volunteer in the past, serving as an Eastern Kings arena director, as well as a unit 4 school board trustee. Hartley is a clinical psychologist and has served on the board of the King’s Playhouse Theatre in Georgetown and the non-profit organization Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan. She has been the Green Party shadow critic for Health and Wellness since 2016.
Leard will be running against Tommy Kickham, the Liberal candidate in Souris-Elmira. The sitting MLA for the area is Colin LaVie of the PC party.
Hartley will be running against former leader of the Opposition Steven Myers. The Liberal Party has yet to nominate a candidate in Georgetown-Pownal.
