NORTH CAPE

One of the fishermen missing off North Cape since a fishing boat sank there on Tuesday has been found. A searcher discovered a body in seaweed which had washed up on the rocky shoreline shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday. Numerous people at the cape later Sunday morning reported the body found was that of the captain of the Kyla Anne, 55-year-old Glen DesRoches of Tignish.

He was found very close to Prince Edward Island’s northwestern tip, beyond the lighthouse.

A brother of the other man missing since Tuesday’s sinking, said the search is still on for the 54-year-old first mate, Moe Getson.

Gordie Getson studies the water off North Cape Sunday afternoon, hoping to locate his brother, Moe, who has been missing since Tuesday. A second fishermen who was missing with Moe Getson since their fishing boat capsized, was found at the point Sunday morning.

P.E.I. Ground Search and Rescue had temporarily suspended its search after Thursday’s efforts, but incident commander, Corporal Al Vincent said personnel were back on the scene shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday. Vincent confirmed that between 40 and 50 PEIGSAR personnel are on the scene.

The RCMP issued a statement shortly after 2 p.m. confirming that the body of one of the fishermen had been found and indicating the Tignish Fire Department assisted in its recovery. The Coroner’s Office has been contacted and an autopsy has been ordered.

Besides the PEIGSAR personnel, several local residents, many of them carrying binoculars, were walking the cliffs, and so e along the shoreline, searching for the second missing fisherman.

“You can’t have rest until they’re found,” said Dot Perry who, with her husband Herbie, has been searching every day. Although there’s relief that one of the men has been found, “it’s still not finished,” she stressed.
