An excavator was brought in Tuesday morning to pull out the old dam at what was once known as the Summerside Ice Pond on South Drive.

The Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association has secured funding to restore the pond as a historic angling location and wildlife habitat.

Removal of the dam and clearing most of the cattails from the pond will be completed this fall, while the installation of a new fish ladder and other restorative work will happen in 2018.
