Damage to vehicle
RCMP received a complaint about damage to vehicle while parked in Tignish on Sept. 4. The damage is believed to have happened the previous night. The investigation is ongoing.
Stolen dory reported
RCMP received a report of a stolen dory on Sept. 4, from the shore near Milligan’s wharf. The theft is believed to have taken place sometime during daylight hours. The investigation is ongoing.
Vehicle lands in ditch in motor vehicle accident
At approximately 11 p.m. on Sept. 4, RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision in Long River. The vehicle had overturned in the ditch; the four occupants did not report injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
Assault and damage property reported to RCMP
At around 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, RCMP received a complaint of assault and damaged property in Cascumpec. The investigation resulted in one 34-year-old male arrested, charged and released with conditions to remain away from the victim. He will appear in court in mid-November.
Police dog services required to locate woman
Also on Sept. 5, around 10 a.m. RCMP received a call for assistance in locating a 26-year-old female. With assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Service, she was located, but in medical distress. She was found in a heavily wooded area. She was extracted quickly and semiconscious when she was taken to waiting EMS services on site. She was transported to Prince County Hospital by EMS.
Verbal warning issued
On Sept. 5, at approximately 10:30 p.m. RCMP received a report of ATVs driving erratically in Tignish. Upon patrol, one ATV was located with the driver failing to stop. Police patrolled to the owner’s residence, spoke to the parent of the young driver and issued a verbal warning.
Two vehicle collision results in hospitalization for one
On Sept. 7, just before 10 a.m. RCMP responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision in Bloomfield Corner. One person was injured and transported by EMS. The investigation is ongoing.
Man dies of injuries in two-vehicle collision
At approximately 4 a.m. on Sept. 9, RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Route 2 in Mount Pleasant. A 38-year-old male from Summerside died as a result of his injuries. The driver, and lone occupant of the other vehicle, was not injured. An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene and conducted an examination. The investigation is ongoing.
Issue reminders
RCMP is reminding drivers to be alert in school zones and ensure they reduce speeds according to the posted limits and to be vigilant when a school bus engages its lights to pick up or drop off students.
According to RCMP distracted driving continues to be a problem. They are reminding drivers to use a blue tooth device or pull over before using a phone.
Weekly tally reaches 18-traffic related incidences
During the past week, Prince District RCMP received 18 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically, parking unsafely and speeding. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the month of September in various communities across Prince District.
