A nice, seasonal fall is in store for P.E.I., with temperatures expected to be average or slightly above normal.
The Weather Network released its annual fall forecast on Monday, ahead of the actual first official date of autumn on Sept. 23.
“Hopefully, everyone will be pleased with what we’ve got coming up,’’ Nadine Powell, meteorologist with the network, said as she revealed to The Guardian what the forecast was going to be.
“We are anticipating for the rest of fall, conditions will more or less even out to where we should be.’’
Powell said temperatures will obviously begin to cool off soon and that is to be expected considering that temperatures reached 25 C on Monday with the humidex hitting 31 C.
“Although we are expecting temperatures will cool off a little bit heading into October, November is perhaps going to be more or less closer to average. We’re not seeing conditions that will be too stormy for (P.E.I.).’’
Powell, for instance, does not see an early start to winter in November for the province.
It’s also no secret that the diminishing amount of daylight helps cool things off. The average temperature on P.E.I. in September is about 18 C, dipping down to an average of 12 C in October and then to 6 C by the time November rolls around.
Powell also doesn’t see a lot of tropical storm activity in P.E.I.’s fall forecast.
“We may be tapping into a little bit of tropical activity but we’re looking at conditions coming out to seasonal. This is now the peak of the hurricane season and, although it got off to a slow start, as was expected, we’re not seeing that it will push us over average (for precipitation).’’
She noted that that isn’t to say P.E.I. will get off scot-free when it comes to tropical stormy weather but what it does get, if anything, shouldn’t be overly serious.
As for this week, Powell said some of the showers in the forecast is a combination of a front that is passing through as well as the remnants of hurricane Florence.
