WEATHER: Friday, May 19 – showers likely this afternoon, record yesterday

One spot on P.E.I. set a record high temperature yesterday, that being Summerside which showed a high of 26.3C

That is higher than the previous record high of 23.9 set in 1963.

All other locations on the Island did not get beyond the record highs of past years for yesterday’s date, but Charlottetown briefly made a stop at 25 around 5 p.m., which is equal to the record for the area, also set in 1963.

Today marks a small astronomical milestone. It is the first time this year that civil twilight begins before 5 a.m.

Weather-wise, for today, there is a slight risk of thundershower mid afternoon. Until then it will be mostly sunny.

The early morning temperatures on P.E.I. this morning ranged been +15.3C at the Charlottetown airport, to 8.3 at North Cape.

The Confederation Bridge is open to all traffic and flowing smoothly now, but has a warning of possible wind restrictions anytime between 10 p.m. tonight, through to 7 a.m. tomorrow morning.

All flights into and out of Charlottetown Airport are forecast to be on time across the FlyPEI board.

A look at the historical records shows that no snow fell on this date, and there was no record of snow on the ground.

            WEATHER TODAY: Environment Canada is predicting there will be a mix of sun and cloud with possibly some showers this morning and early this afternoon. A few showers are much more likely to begin this afternoon as a cold front moves in.

            WIND: Wind becoming southwest this morning then northwest gusting to 50 this afternoon.

            TEMPERATURE: Might reach 23 around 3 p.m., before starting to fall quickly.
