All provincial government offices Island-wide have delayed opening until 10:30 a.m. today.
Holland College and UPEI are also on a delay.
"Due to road conditions, UPEI will delay opening until 10:30 am on Friday, February 17," is said in a statement issued by UPEI at 6:30 a.m.
All that is music to the ears of highway maintenance supervisor Cyril VanColen.
“There were no plows on secondary roads in Prince County yesterday,” he said. “All plows are now out across the province but in Prince County the secondary roads were plugged for the past 24 hours.
“They will be opening them to a single track, but to widen them out is going to take some time,” he said.
The high wind of yesterday limited snow clearing on main roads across the province and secondary roads of Queens and Kings county.
“You can’t salt when winds are high,” said VanColen.
“We are just beginning salting now,” he said just after 5 a.m. today.
He described all roads as being a slippery snow-pack.
Garbage cart delivery is on for today, sort of.
Island Waste Management Corporation says the following on it’s web site today:
“Please be (advised) that all trucks are being dispatched this morning on schedule.
All scheduled collections for carts & blue bags will be attempted,” says the Waste Watch site.
“If your road has not been serviced by snow plow operators when the truck is in your community today, or if your carts / blue bags are not accessible, please keep in mind IWMC's Excess Materials Guideline for your next collection.
“Contact Customer Service for more information.”
The site also notes that IWMC offices and disposal facilities are on a delayed opening until 10:30 a.m.
Environment Canada’s winter storm warning ended just after 10 p.m. last night.
Confederation Bridge is open today to all traffic after being under a wind-related traffic restriction between 3 p.m. and midnight yesterday.
