TIGNISH, P.E.I. – A 53-year-old man from Waterford is facing drug trafficking charges after he was arrested during a traffic stop in Tignish Thursday afternoon.
During the traffic stop, the Prince District Joint Force Operations Unit, comprised of RCMP officers and members of the Summerside and Kensington Police Departments, seized cocaine, crack cocaine and more than $1,500 in cash.
Corp. Nicholas Doyle with Prince District RCMP described the cocaine seized as “a significant amount for a traffic stop.”
He said the traffic stop was conducted after the man pulled his vehicle into a parking lot in Tignish. The investigation that led to the traffic stop had been underway for about three weeks and is ongoing.
A court date has not been set, but Doyle said he anticipates it will be within the next six to eight weeks. The individual was released from custody Thursday afternoon.
