She quickly settled on a responsible choice: paying down her student loan, said a statement issued today from Atlantic Lottery.

“I was beyond excited,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

Moore lives in Mount Pleasant resident, and graduated this spring.

“I thought about a few other things but decided to put it towards my student loan.”

The winning Alpha ticket was part of a pre-packaged gift pack Moore received for her birthday. On an Alpha ticket, players scratch to reveal letters that are used to spell out words. After scratching just a few letters, Moore uncovered the word “chic” and knew she’d won something, but didn’t scratch the corresponding prize until all the tickets in her gift pack were completed.

It was a half-hour drive to the closest store but an excited Moore made the trip to have the ticket validated.

“It was late and there was nobody in the store,” she said. “I asked the guy if he could check my ticket.

“He got super excited and forgot to give me the (validation) slip and then chased me to my car to make sure I had it.”

Now with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Moore says a social work degree is in her future plans.

Atlantic Lottery is publicly owned by the four Atlantic provinces – and says it returns 100 per cent of profits to Atlantic Canada.
