The referee had minor injuries from the incident, which occurred at a midget AA finals game on Sunday at the community’s rink.

Police arrested an 18 year-old Charlottetown man and his 41-year-old father, a resident of Morell. Each will be charged with one count of assaulting the official.

Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Charlottetown Provincial Court on April 26.

Randy Cooper, president of the Pownal Minor Hockey Association’s executive, told The Guardian on Wednesday that the association would not comment on the incident because the case is in the hands of the RCMP.

Cooper did confirm the two people charged are not members of the Pownal Minor Hockey Association.

The RCMP are continuing their investigation into the incident.
