SPRINGFIELD, P.E.I. - A woman has died following a collision with a tractor trailer on Route 2 near Pleasant Valley late Thursday afternoon.

The RCMP issued a statement Friday, saying that it was a 23-year-old woman from the Souris area who was killed.

East Prince District RCMP, Kensington Police Department, Island EMS and the Kensington Fire Department responded to the call around 4:15 p.m. Police and fire officials confirmed the woman's death Thursday night.

The accident occurred near the Breadalbane turnoff on a straight stretch of road when a Honda Civic and a milk truck carrying a full load collided.

The driver was the only occupant of the Honda Civic.

The man driving the tractor trailer was not hurt.

Rodney Hickey, deputy fire chief with the Kensington Fire Department, says road conditions were a factor.

“They were very slippery,” said Hickey. “They were snow covered and it was windy, very windy.”

Route 2 was closed between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for investigation.
