From Glorious Sons and other performers at its fifth annual Rock the Boat Music Fest to oyster shucking sensations and trivia whizzes, the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival came to a close recently with the presentation of community awards and the crowning of Miss Oyster Pearl 2018.
Miss Northam, Darcie Augustine, is crowned Miss Tyne Valley Oyster Pearl 2018 by last year’s festival queen, Raylene MacLean. Also participating in the crowning are, from left, Miss House Calls Home Improvement, Rylee Lynch, who was chosen first runner-up; Miss Gulf Island Marine, Amanda Williams, second runner-up; and the pageant’s flower girl, Erin Sparkes. Darcie Augustine who arrived on the festival’s stage as Miss Northam, stepped off the stage as the festival’s new queen. She was crowned by Miss Oyster Pearl 2017 Raylene MacLean.

Prior to the pageant finale, Janette Dawson was crowned Women’s Institute’s Member of the Year. Ashton Grigg was named Youth of the Year; Steven Ellis was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award and Don Barlow was chosen as Citizen of the Year.
As winner of the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival’s P.E.I. Mutual Insurance Youth Talent Contest, Krysten Cameron, left, will represent the Oyster Festival during the Prince Edward Island Association of Exhibitions’ provincial finals August 31 at L’Exposition agricole et le Festival acadien in Abram-Village. Placing second and third at the Tyne Valley competition were Kiersten Jackson, center, and Hillary Hutchinson.
