Ten contestants to appear in Miss Oyster Pearl pageant

Ten contestants will take part in the 2014 Tyne Valley Oyster Festival - Miss Oyster Pearl pageant this year.

The Oyster Festival will be celebrated from Wednesday, July 30 to Sunday, Aug. 3. The 10 contestants are: Carlee Lynch, 18, daughter of Devon Broome and Todd Lynch, representing House Calls Home Improvement; Kayla Campbell, 17, daughter of Leo and Allison Campbell, representing Burleigh Brothers Seafood; Robyn Doran, 17, daughter of Terry and Janet Doran, representing the Community of Northam; Savanna Lewis, 17, daughter of Tanya and David Lewis, representing Lennox Island; Rebecca Ann Palmer, 17, daughter of Reginald and Tracy Palmer, representing Ellerslie Rite Stop; Marissa Marchbank, 18, daughter of Ricky and Chastity Marchbank, representing Dennis Motors; Ashley Bishop, 17, daughter of William and Stacey Bishop, representing the Community of Tyne Valley; Breanne Lewis, 18, daughter of Bob and Lynn Lewis, representing Alan’s Convenience Store and Fuel Bar; Caitlin MacLennan, 18, daughter of Scott and Tracy MacLennan, representing Island Tradition Artisans and Basket Weavers; and Ellen Maclean, 17, daughter of Steven and Sandra Maclean, representing Freeland Women’s Institute.

The contestants will appear on stage at the opening ceremonies at the Community Sports Centre on Thursday, July 31, when they will model streetwear, display their talent for the pageant and participate in a group number. Saturday, Aug. 2 the contestants will travel in oyster dories pulled through the village of Tyne Valley during the parade at 11 am. In formal wear for the closing events at the Community Sports Centre on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 4:30 p.m., one winner will be crowned Miss Oyster Pearl 2014.

The emcee for the pageant is Fred Kuhn and the pageant organizers are Rowena Grigg and Karen Wagner.
